Spring 2004 project
The Poitou-Charentes youth hostels welcomed a young person with the European Voluntary Service Program. She energizes the website of the region youth hostels (new translations, new pictures, new columns, etc). She also has the opportunity to visit the Poitou-Charentes region.

International Volunteer Camps in the Poitou-Charentes in 2003
The La Rochelle and Poitiers youth hostels organised an International Volunteer Camps from August 10 to 31 of 2003 at Poitiers and La Rochelle youth hostel. The purpose was to create convivial garden spaces where people can meet up with each others. The other festivities were: the visit of the Futuroscope, of the Marais Poitevin, of the aquarium of La Rochelle, VTT, Accrobranche, spectacles. The programme is precisely decided at your arrival.
Angoulême
During 5 days, Angoulême vibrated on the rhythm of world musics on the occasion of the Musiques Metisses Festival. But before welcoming artists, the festival site had first to be arranged and prepared! The young people from Australia, United States, Spain and France assembled stages, set up the scenography with the festival team, created a small exhibition and held an intercultural stand. They had time enough for leisure activities: free access to all festival concerts, visit of Cognac Caves, the Futuroscope and the Cartoon Museum, canoe on the river Charente, hiking...
Poitiers
They have created a new meeting place in the Poitiers Hostel park, building benches and an arbour with environment-friendly materials (straw, clay bricks, timber...), in collaboration with the association Au Jardin d'Aventures. Leisure activities: visiting the Poitiers and the Loira Castles, biking, the Marais Poitevin, climbing on trees, concerts...
La Rochelle
They have created a mural painting from sketching the picture to drawing it on a wall of La Rochelle hostel with overhead projector technique and with stencils. They did not need to be confirmed artist, they just came with imagination and desire to express themselves to posterity!!!. They visited La Rochelle Aquarium and the Maritime Museum, beaches, Fort Boyard, Futuroscope, Poitiers. They also biked the famous Ile de Ré and made a trip boat in Marais Poitevin.
VTTSince September 1999, the Poitiers youth hostel is one of the 30 French mountain bike activity bases, ratified by the French Federation of Bicycle touring (FFCT). All along the year, VTT trecks are organised so as to discover the 350 kms of paths which compose the "town and nature" tour of the Communauté d'Agglomérations de Poitiers. You will follow the rivers of La Boivre, Clain and Auxance. You will also discover the Fontaine le Comte abbey, the Saint Benoît abbey and the oldest French abbey, Ligugé. If you do not have any moutain bike, the base will lend you one. A bikewash and a garage are at your disposal.

TREE CLIMBINGNew at the Poitiers youth hostel : the tree climbing. You will be able to climb and discover safely the trees of the youth hostel garden. The activity is managed by the "Araignée"association who will go with you in your discovery of the forest environment. (previous reservation, 8 persons)
SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES
The Saintes youth hostel proposes you to discover some scientific activities in partnership with local associations for children or adults, for beginners or sciences-lovers (micro-rocket, micro-balloon, etc). Contact us to reserve (minimum : 10 people).
