EXCURSIONS
BY MINI-BUS
As from june, the youth hostel proposes excursions to discover the area - day or half-day trips. They take place in a 9 seater mini-bus, minimum 5 persons, maximum 8. You can thus visit (at preferential rates) certain tourist sites such as the cathare castles, the four castles of Lastours, Puilaurens, Peyrepertuse, the Abbey of Caunes-Minervois and other sites...
For a half day : (1.30pm to 6.30pm)
Visit of the four castles of Lastours (Cathare sites)
Visit of the abbey of Caunes-Minervois
Visit and wine-tasting in a regional wine cellar
For a full day: (9.30am to 6.30pm):
Visit of Puilaurens castle (cathare site)
Visit and picnic at the hermitige of Galamus gorges
Visit of Peyrepertuse castle (cathare site)
Depending on the programme, it is sometimes possible to organise other destinations on the spot - ask for the "animateur"

FESTIVAL DE CARCASSONNE
From 7th to 31th July,
the Festival de Carcassonne presents different concerts (theatre, opera, dance and music) in the very heart of the mediaeval town (except the David Bowie concert which takes place at the "A. Domec" stadium)

JULY FIRE-WORK AT THE CASTLE
On 14th July (Bastille day) you can see the unique fire work display with the "burning" of the Cité -to be seen from the outside of the Cité at 10.30 pm.
SPANISH WEEK AT CARCASSONNE
The
last week-end of august, music all the night in the streets...
WALKING OR CYCLING
Various possibilities of walking or cycling (mountain bike) round about the Cité, along the "Canal de Midi", on the banks of the river Aude, etc., combining superb views of the Cité from the outside and visits of local attractions (eagles, Australian park, and the "Cavayère lake: supervised bathing from mid June to end of September, - 45 minutes by bike, 1 hour 30 on foot by GR36. The lake is also accessible by local bus.
